The Minster is open for sightseeing everyday as well as regular services, events and concerts. Please note there are occasions when York Minster is open for services only. Please check our Closures section for sightseeing closures.

Please note: Each day the Quire and East end shuts an hour before evening service (e.g 4.15pm closure for a 5.15pm Evensong)

Minster Shop Opening Hours

The shop is open Monday - Saturday 10am - 5.30pm and on a Sunday 12.30pm - 5.30pm.

Admission

There are a range of ticket options to suit every visitor, from families to individuals and those wanting to visit more of York's brilliant attractions. For those travelling in a group of 10 or more people, find out about Group Visits.

Plus, your admission ticket to York Minster is valid for 12 months! A free guided tour is included in your admission price, subject to availability. Adult admission starts from just £10 and children under-16 can visit the Minster for free with an adult!

Please note: Following events in Manchester and London, York Minster will undertake random bag searches upon entry to the Minster and large bags or suitcase will not be allowed inside the cathedral.

UK tax payers may 'Gift Aid' their entrance fee which means that we can claim back 25% of your entrance fee from HM Revenue and Customs.

Did you know?

York Residents: Entrance to the Minster is free with valid identification including: a YorkCard, driving licence, utility bill, or proof of York address.

Your Minster ticket includes a free guided tour (subject to availability).

It costs £21,000 a day to run York Minster. Your admission charge directly supports the future of this holy and historic building. In these circumstances we trust you will understand why we charge for entry. No charges are made for those who wish to enter York Minster to pray, light a candle, or attend a service.
