York Minster Stone

York Minster Stone

York Minster is built in limestone quarried from the Tadcaster area. It is brought to the Stoneyard in Deangate to be carved into the unique blocks that make up this magnificent Cathedral.

The Chapter House completed and in use by 1286 houses some of the Minsters finest carvings, including funny faces, animals and mythical beasts. The Chapter house is the meeting place for the full College of Canons.
