Stained Glass
The 128 medieval windows of York Minster are regarded as one of the wonders of the world. They include the Great East Window, the largest medieval stained glass window in the country and the famous Rose Window above the South Transept, saved and restored after the fire of 1984.
The restoration of medieval stained glass is a complicated, delicate and lengthy process; one panel of glass can take over 600 man hours to repair. This job is undertaken by the Glaziers Trust who is responsible for the upkeep of all the glass in York Minster.
